Career Technical Education partnership with Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem Habitat Forsyth One of longest running CTE partnerships in the state
Winston-Salem, NC – Attracting young people into the construction work force is of critical importance due to the growing labor shortage. According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, “Construction businesses, excluding those building single-family homes, employed close to 4.2 million workers in April, up 3,000 from March, according to an analysis by the Associated Builders and Contractors, a trade group. That was the highest employment level since November 2008.”
The Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem works with Habitat for Humanity Forsyth providing funds for training opportunities that allows students at the WSFCS Career Center and FTCC Carpentry Program build Habitat Homes annually.
To financially sustain this partnership, additional funds are needed for scholarships, tools for students and participation in trade events to reach out to students.
THIS SATURDAY Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem will have their first Builders Surplus Yard Sale sponsored by Solid State Tile and McCullough Tile. The event will take place at 365 Witt Street, Winston-Salem, Saturday, May 20, 8am – 2pm. All funds raised from the sale of builder’s surplus items (including many new, not salvage items!) will benefit the Career Technical Education partnership with Habitat for Humanity Forsyth County, WSFCS and FTCC. Now in its 28th year, this partnership provides students with hands on experience building a Habitat Home, scholarships, and promotes job opportunities in the home building industry.
