The conditions around COVID-19 are ever changing and we are meeting each new challenge with an open mind and more importantly an open heart. Being an organization that includes retail operations, service from an army of volunteers, and the support of staff and supporters, outlined below are the steps we are taking during this time – including ways that you can stay connected to our mission.

So what are we doing at Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County?

Office
Steps we are taking:

  • The office will reopen on Wednesday, March 18.
  • Visitors will be seen by appointment or through conference call only.
  • A phone number is posted at our main entrance for any deliveries or unscheduled visitors.

How you can help:

  • If you need to meet or talk with someone at our office, please discuss your visit in advance through an email or call. You can view our directory here.

ReStores
Steps we are taking:

  • The Forsyth County ReStores will reopen Wednesday, March 18 with abbreviated hours (10am-5pm) allowing staff extra time to deep clean hard surfaces after each shift.
  • Donation pick-ups will continue but we are asking that all donations be placed exterior to the home, either in the garage or on the porch.

How you can help:

  • The ReStore is a key part of how we build homes with local families and any downtime will certainly be a hit to that effort. We are currently still accepting drop-off donations at the rear of each store and are still scheduling donation pick-ups. If you feel uncomfortable scheduling a donation pick-up at this time or donations are restricted at any point, we ask you to consider holding onto your items until we are able to pick them up at a later date
  • Stop by for a quick trip to purchase a Restore gift card. This is a great way to support our efforts now and to get a great deal later.

Volunteers
Steps we are taking:

  • All volunteer activities, including construction and ReStore, have been canceled at this time.

How you can help:

  • Take steps to stay healthy—you are a vital part of everything we do and there will be plenty to do once the situation around COVID-19 improves.  Please keep an eye on our Volunteer Hub website for posted volunteer activities, once we resume!

Homeowners and the families we serve
Steps we are taking:

  • All education classes and YEP! activities have been canceled.
  • We have paused all repair projects due to the majority of those served through the program being part of the high-risk population.
  • We are not accepting applications for our homeownership or repair programs at this time.

How you can help:

  • Stay in touch with our Program Services team. If you have questions or concerns during this time, call (336)306-8424.

We still have a busy year ahead of us especially once the situation around COVID-19 improves. The impacts are already being felt by families, local businesses and organizations.  We urgently need your financial support to continue to address affordable housing issues through this difficult time as well as when conditions around COVID-19 improve. Please consider any financial support possible and click here to give a gift online or see other ways to give. When you give, you’ll help us continue to do more to improve the place families in Forsyth County call home.

In addition to the steps above, we have increased the presence of sanitation and disinfectant supplies and implemented more rigorous practices to help prevent the spread of illness. We are following the CDC guidelines to create a safe shared space and have instructed our staff follow protocols outlined to help protect others, including steps to follow should they or someone in their home fall sick.

Please take the necessary precautions, stay healthy, and let’s be there for one another. If you have any questions or concerns, we are here!

Simply email habitat@habitatforsyth.org or give us a call at (336)306-8424.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update our operations and best practices as guidelines change.
