Six Forsyth County families will receive an early – and very meaningful -- Christmas present on Dec. 9, when their new Habitat for Humanity homes will be dedicated. For them and seven other families who received homes this year from Habitat of Forsyth County, Christmas 2006 will be extra special: their first celebrated in homes of their own.

The dedication and worship service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Habitat neighborhood on Greeley Street. The ceremony is the culmination of many months of hard work by the new homeowners, who each performed 300 hours of “sweat equity” helping to build other families’ homes and their own. The families also receive a 20-year, interest-free mortgage from Habitat. Their payments allow Habitat to continue its work of giving other hard working, low-income families the chance to have a home of their own.

The sponsors of the houses being dedicated on Dec. 9 are:

  • Dell, Inc.
  • 84 Lumber with First Christian Church (co-sponsorship)
  • Women Build
  • Friends of Kay Lord
  • Supporters of BirdFest 2006
  • Southern Community Bank and Trust and Greater
  • Cleveland Avenue Christian Church (co-sponsorship).

Call Habitat for Humanity at 765-8854 for directions or more information.
